The first (and only)

PSFC Float

July 4, 1998
Wolfeboro, NH

The PSFC is not "an island entire to itself," as we learn in John Donne´s Meditation 17, it is a piece of the Wolfeboro community, "a part of the main." What better way to demonstrate our community pride then by actively participating in Wolfeboro´s annual Independence Day Parade? For the past two years, the PSFC has entered its first rate floats in said festival.

In 1998, we decorated Sheeter's 1991 sky blue Toyota Camry station wagon -- alias "Bucket of Beans" -- with red, white, and blue streamers across the hood of the car. We affixed empty Moxie cans -- all consumed while decorating-- to Bucket´s sides. The back windows were adorned with 2½´ by 2´ pictures of Peter. We blasted rockin´ tunes like the Cherry Poppin´ Daddies, the "Da Da Da" song, and the Spice Girls (hey, we had to appeal to all the 11 year olds-- and Cliff). Participants in the PSFC's float were: Peterina, Sheeter, Cliff, Grismando, and Steeeve (the former three sporting shirts with silk-screened pictures of Peter; Grismando, a Moxie logo shirt; Steeeve, a festive striped polo). While we undoubtedly were the crowd favorite that year, we unfortunately did not receive any commendations from the judges.

However, 1999 proved to be the year of the PSFC. Getting together the day before the event, Peterina, Sheeter, Cliff, Grismando, Aja, Ephraim, Jenn, Marilyn, and Fred Piehl spent 10 hours adhering a year´s worth of empty Moxie cans around the trim, windows, doors, and bumpers of Fred´s GMC Suburban (for which we are eternally grateful) and all around the edges of Fred's boat trailer (for which we again are in ethereal thanks) in an aesthetically pleasing pattern. Peterina, Sheeter, and Bill passed out over 100 cans of ice-cold Moxie (though more boastful claims have been made) to a parched crowd. Pious posed as "The Statue of Moxie" in an orange toga; Cliff fished with a Moxie pole and held together a 50 gallon Moxie fountain designed by Fred, an engineering major from the University of Wisconsin. Isaac sparked the crowd on his drum set with kickin´ funk, and Jenn captured the event on tape.

We all exhibited our bodies in bright orange Moxie shirts, and our efforts in the event were gratified by the parade judges. The Moxie float -- staffed and designed by PSFC members -- won first prize in its division. We were ecstatic, and we wish, once more, to thank all those who helped us with the float.
